Meet expert tour guide and speaker, Doug Ohman, to learn about the Swedish immigration in Minnesota.

Keep an eye out for barn quilts and statues of Dala horses as you make your way thorough the rural countryside around Scandia. Doug has incorporated a variety of historic sites on this riding tour. Possible stops will be made at Swedish farmsteads, Churches, Cemetery, School, or Museum. (Some sites are managed by volunteer organizations or are family operations that are subject to last minute changes.) Have a Swedish luncheon in the area. After lunch continue to learn about this area. Many early settlers greeted the landscape reminiscent of their homelands. Beginning in the mid-1800s, this community of dairy farmers helped each other raise barns, tend fields and can food for winter, needing little beyond a creamery, mercantile and church.

Doug Ohman has done extensive research and some of his published work include: “Minnesota Treasures,” “Schoolhouses of Minnesota,” “Courthouses of Minnesota,” “Libraries of Minnesota,” “Churches of Minnesota,” and “Historic Homes of Minnesota.” Passengers can purchase their own copy from Doug personally.
