Choir is a non-audition group with no prior experience necessary. It is a fun way to start the day singing with others and a great way to meet new friends. Students will learn how to sing in 2-3 part harmony and read choral music from many genres and cultures. They will also sometimes have the opportunity to add instrumental accompaniments to their songs. In the spring, students will have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Minnesota Twins Game. Students entering 4th and 5th grade have the opportunity to join choir with Mr. Steven-Roe. Choir is a before school activity held once a week. Fourth grade choir meets on Thursdays from 8:05-9:05 A.M. Fifth grade choir meets on Tuesdays from 8:05-9:05 A.M. Students do not need to audition for choir. The Turtle Lake choirs perform a winter concert in January and a spring concert in May, as well as a few other performances throughout the year. Students will create a collection of wild and wonderful nature art including a bold harvest sunflower drawing, a glowing neon platypus and baby, a vibrant butterfly, and a whimsical mouse on a toadstool mushroom. Along the way, artists will experiment with exciting materials like neon liquid watercolor, tempera sticks, markers, and Model Magic to bring their creations to life. Each class is packed with creativity, color, and fun! Students will create calming take-home projects while learning simple mindfulness techniques they can use every day. Presented by The Mindfulness Movement.
