Priority for both courses will be as follows. First priority: next year's seniors, then juniors, then sophomores who will attend a Mounds View school Fall 2025. This is an online course combining office hours and weekly independent coursework. Attendance at the mandatory parent/student orientation is a requirement for the course. This Health course builds and reinforces individual awareness of many health-related issues. Topics of study include mental health and communication, prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, CPR, human sexuality, and aging and loss. American Red Cross Hands-Only CPR instruction will be provided. This option does not have a CPR certification card. Additional information will be available at the orientation. Available to students entering grades 10-12. This course offers .5 credit of compacted curriculum. After completion of the course, students will receive a letter grade which will become part of the student’s transcript. All students will automatically be placed on a waitlist. Enrollment is limited. You will receive official confirmation of admittance to the course by March 9th. Payment for the course will be charged at the time of course confirmation. Attendance at the mandatory parent/student orientation is a requirement for the course. This course emphasizes lifetime physical fitness, wellness, sport skills and sport concepts. The physical fitness component includes muscular strength and conditioning, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and fitness planning. The wellness component examines fitness and nutrition concepts that will help students make healthy decisions. Sport skills and concepts include lifetime skills, rules of play, etiquette and sportsmanship. The goal of this class is to explore activities that young people could adopt as lifelong activities. Available to students entering grades 9-12. This course offers .5 credit of compacted curriculum. Summer Beginning Band 5th GradeStudents are invited to begin participating in the Mounds View Public Schools band program the summer after fourth grade. The summer band program offers students an opportunity to start their learning of a band instrument with frequent instruction and small class sizes. Delivered in a series of 45-minute lessons spanning four weeks, students receive personalized instruction in a small-group setting. At the end of the program, students perform their first band concert. Band Information Nights - Stop by anytime between 5:00-7:00 PM to meet our district band directors if you’d like assistance with registration and to rent a band instrument through one of our reputable music vendors. Tuesday, March 18 at Irondale High School Thursday, April 3 at Chippewa Middle School Participants can sign up for any section time or location that works best for them. There will also be an opportunity to start band in the fall of fifth grade for students who cannot participate in the summer program. Please note: Beginning Band enrollment will open March 18 at 9am. Sections will not be visible searchable until that time.
